Accuplacer Placement Testing

We understand that many people still need to take the Accuplacer exam in order to place into English and math courses, or qualify for the College Credit Plus program.

Purpose of Placement Testing

Placement testing helps to determine your academic readiness for college courses and what courses you may take at Shawnee State University. Placement testing is free; however, testers are limited to one test per calendar year

Because much of your education path can rely on placement testing, we encourage you to do some preparation before you take the test, especially if you have been out of school for more than two years. Consider taking a practice test to become familiar with the format and the type of questions you will be asked. Shawnee uses the Accuplacer Next Generation test as its placement testing tool. To take a practice Accuplacer test, go to: Practice and be Prepared for Accuplacer.

In addition, if you have been out of school for more than one year, it is suggested that you refresh your memory regarding mathematics concepts, especially algebra and geometry, before taking the placement test. Khan Academy is a good, free resource for this review.

How to Register for Accuplacer Testing

  • Testers who are taking placement testing for the purposes of College Credit Plus should first check with their middle school or high school guidance counselor to see if Shawnee is providing testing at your school. If so, you should not register to take the Accuplacer remotely or on Shawnee’s campus.
  • Testers living within 30 miles of campus should take the Accuplacer on campus. You can register for the exam by going to: calendly.com/placementtesting. We have limited space each day, so please select a different day if your first choice is not available.
  • Testers living more than 30 miles from campus have the option to test remotely if they meet the requirements for testing remotely (please see “What you need to take the placement test online”) or we can find a testing center near you where you can take the Accuplacer and have the results sent to SSU. You can register to take the Accuplacer remotely by going to: calendly.com/placementtesting. We have limited space each day, so please select a different day if your first choice is not available.

When you register to take the Accuplacer, use your Legal First and Last Name. This test is part of your official college record. If you do not test under the name you use to apply to the university, your test results cannot be used.
